The Pacific Museum of the Earth

at the Department of Earth and Ocean Sciences

Publications

Introduction

The museum produces several basic publications to help advertise our facility and keep interested people informed as to our activities.

Quicklinks: | Newsletter | Brochure | Key to Courtyard Symbols | Volunteer Flyer | Tornado Basics Information Sheet

Newsletter

The newsletter is distributed quarterly (typically in January, April, July, and October) and updates subscribers on current events in the Pacific Museum of the Earth, including the status of displays which are under development, current and upcoming programming, and events the museum staff plan to attend and reports on events attended in the past, among other things.

Newsletter distribution is restricted to Museum Members. Click here to find out how to become a member.

Brochure

The Pacific Museum of the Earth brochure consists of a single double sided sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper intended to be folded in thirds for placement in brochure display racks. It contains basic information on the museum's programs and facilities and provides contact information where more thorough information can be acquired. We encourage you to print copies of the brochure and distribute them.

Key to Courtyard Symbols

Outside of the building that hosts the museum (Earth and Ocean Sciences -- MAIN) there is a landscaped courtyard which features 21 Earth, ocean, and atmospheric science themed pavement insets. Many of these symbols are technical and their meaning not obvious, so the museum provides a guide to their meanings, with pictures.

Volunteer Flyer

We are always in need of volunteers to help out with gift shop staffing, display maintainence, and ongoing projects. Please feel welcome to print, post, and distribute this one page flyer.

Tornado Basics Information Sheet

This double-sided sheet was created to go with the museum's "Tornado Machine," which creates a funnel cloud with many of the properties of tornadoes. The information sheet explains what tornadoes are, how their strength is measured, and how the different types of tornadoes are classified.
