World class outcrop of exhumed Permian reef complex, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, west Texas, U.S.A. This virtual field trip will guide you through the palaeogeography, palaeocology, and sedimentary facies of this exceptional geological museum. The Permian Reef Complex comprises a variety of carbonate and siliciclastic sedimentary facies at the shelf to basin transition of a Late Paleozoic rimmed carbonate platform. (It is a generalized overview intended for introducing undergraduates to carbonate sedimentology and as an illustrated collection of paleoenvironmental highlights; more advanced students will find it a very useful survey before addressing the professional literature. Although the exercise is not "term-intensive", a geological dictionary and sedimentology text with glossary will be useful for most students.)
