Cross stratification and current ripples in Brushy Canyon sandstones. You can see the clean white rippled sandstones that are overlain by a dark, thin mantle of silt. The sands were tractional deposits (i.e., transported along the bed as migrating bedforms), whereas the silts were deposited from suspension. Many geologists are convinced that the repeated intimate association of tractional sands with silty drapes in he Brushy Canyon Sandstone arose riverine inputs of terrigenous sediment into a density-stratified Delaware Basin. |
