Veinrock produced by hydrothermal alteration of ultramafic volcanic rocks. The veins are mostly iron-bearing carbonate, and the unusual bright green colour is due to the presence of chromium-bearing mica. The rock is associated with gold deposits in the area. It is also being quarried for possible use as a decorative stone and/or the manufacture of polished 'marble' tiles.
