A variety of seminars and colloquia are presented within the EOS department during each academic year. These seminars are open to the public.
Departmental Colloquia are intended to be of relatively broad interest to the EOS community. Colloquium speakers selected by the EOS Seminars Committee are usually brought in from various Canadian or international institutions but occasionally include research faculty from within EOS. Colloquia are generally scheduled on Thursdays at 3:30 PM. Coffee and donuts are served from 3:30-4 and talks are from 4-5. (See the seminar schedule page.)
A large number of seminars on more specific topics (many of which are of relevance to only one of the EOS sub-disciplines) are also given throughout the year. These are typically arranged on a more opportunistic basis, and are commonly presented by researchers who are visiting EOS. (See the seminar schedule page.)
Presentations by Masters students are usually held in the department and open to all. Presentations by PhD students are usually held at the Graduate Student Centre. (See the seminar schedule page.)
Weather briefings will be scheduled usually a couple times a week at noon in the EOS-Main lobby. These seminars help students with their presentation skills and are very informative. Everyone is welcome. (See the schedule page.)
Finally a weekly series of professional development seminars for graduate and undergraduate student in EOS has been arranged by one of the EOS graduate students for the current academic year.(See the professional development page.)
In addition, two 30-minute seminars by graduate students are scheduled for each Friday from 4:00-5:00 PM. These seminars range from "dry runs" of presentations to be given at conferences to less formal progress reports of individual graduate students research projects.
