Profile

2010 – PresentPost doc Fellow at Mineral Deposit Research Unit, University of British Columbia and Greenland Minerals and Energy Ltd. The project investigates the mineralogy of the lujavrite hosted REE deposit of Ilímaussaq Alkaline Complex, South Greenland.

2010 – PresentManaging Director of HF Minerals Ltd, which offers consultancy within rare element mineralisations, especially those hosted in alkaline and carbonatite rocks.

2009 – 2010:      Post Doc Fellow at Department of Geography & Geology, University of Copenhagen and School of Chemistry, University of Southampton. My project combined x-ray and neutron diffraction to study natural Be and H-bearing minerals, that are potentially interesting to the Material Science community.

2005 – 2009:      PhD. School of Geography & Geosciences, University of St Andrews, UK. Title: Luminescence Spectroscopy of Natural and Synthetic REE-bearing Minerals. The project focused on combining crystal structure with luminescence data to understand subtle changes in structure and properties with increased REE content.

2004 – 2005:      Consultant at the Concrete Centre, Danish Technological Institute, Høje Tåstrup, Denmark.

2000 – 2004:      MSc. Geological Institute, University of Copenhagen, DK. Title: A Study of the Crystallography, Crystal Chemistry, Paragenesis and Luminescence Properties of Leucophanite.

1997 – 2000:      BSc. Geological Institute, University of Aarhus, DK. Degree in general geology with a final project focused on natural zeolites.

Research Interests

My research interests, all fall within the fields of classic and modern mineralogy and can be summarised as:

  • The mineralogy of alkaline complexes
  • Crystal chemistry of REE and Be minerals
  • Luminescence of natural and synthetic phases
  • Designing novel materials based on minerals
