My research will utilize samples from four cruises to investigate chemical, physical, and environmental controls on hydroxide speciated trace metal profiles: the GEOTRACES Arctic Ocean Beaufort Sea cruise 2009, Atlantic GEOTRACES cruise 2010, Northeast Pacific Line P cruises in August 2010 and 2011, and coastal Pacific off Vancouver and Queen Charlotte Islands July 2010.  Environmental and hydrographic controls on trace metal profiles within the unique western Arctic, including the isolated deep Canadian Basin, will be investigated based on profiles of Al, Ga, Mn, Ag, Nb, and Ta, and provide baseline proxies for eolian and sedimentary Fe to the Beaufort Sea.  Chemical and physical controls on differential scavenging of Al/Ga and Nb/Ta will be investigated relative to Atlantic and Pacific basins, shallow surface environments, and El Nino controls on biological production.
